Driving track tension

The tension of the tracks is adjusted by moving the rear wheels by means of the nuts on the set screws C (fig. 5). Should the tightening device prove to be insufficie after some use, the tracks must be shortened. In this case the screws in the joints are removed, the ends of the tracks are placed one over the other one more pitch and screwed together again. Then the tracks are tightened in the usual manner with the tightenig screws.

The tension of the tracks should be checked and measured once a week in the following manner:

SNOW-TRAC is driven straight forward about 25 rneters or 25 yards on even ground to ensure an even pull on both tracks. Place a straight bar 776 mm or 30" long between the points where the track is a tangent to the large front wheel and the rear wheel in the front track carriage (see cut). The distance between the bar and the track, when measured at the front carrying wheel, shall be 75 mm or 3". Adjust the track tension if necessary. After the necessary adjustments of the track tensions SNOW-TRAC is driven another 10 meters or 10 yards forward, after which the tensions are checked again.
